We meet once a week for approximately three hours. Classes/subjects are set up on the semester system and children may sign up for their preferred classes (under the appropriate age group) when more than one choice is available. We all have something to give. Each parent can teach something that would enrich our children's education. Each parent will be expected to work two hours teaching and helping in classes each week, and may be called on to help the remaining time to fill in absences. Thus the name Cooperative Education.
We all depend upon one another to make CHAT co-op work smoothly. When people fail to fulfill their commitment and are absent, gaps are left in the program. You must accept the responsibility for your place in the program.
The CHAT co-op was designed to be a three-hour / three class program. In order to function in an orderly manner, children must participate in all three of their classes. If your child does not wish to participate in the full program, we ask that you please make other arrangements for her/him away from co-op, and contact the appropriate Sub-coordinator as to your decision.
It is the policy of CHAT that one parent must be in attendance during co-op hours. That parent will be asked to teach/assist during CHAT and must remain on campus. We understand that there are times when a parent cannot attend co-op. In such cases, arrangements must be made with another co-op member to be responsible for the children that will be attending without their parent. It is the responsibility of the absent parent to make sure the class they're teaching/assisting in is covered.
If you need to be absent:
Teachers: 1. Contact your assistant and arrange for her to teach your class. 2. Contact Kim Reeves to let her know you will be absent.
Assistants: 1. Contact each teacher you assist to let them know you will be absent.
The Co-op meets on Mondays from 9:00 am - 12:30 pm at The Church at Liberty Square at 2001 Liberty Square Drive, Cartersville, GA 30121.
All members are expected to be on their best behavior while at co-op. Members will be expected to:
Be on time (or early) for classes.
Use correct and polite language.
No electronic devices during class: cell phones, ipods/mp3, video games, etc.
Follow the teacher's rules and directions the first time without argument.
Be in the appropriate areas at all times.
Remain with their class unless they obtain permission from their teacher to leave.
Eat only during appropriate times and in appropriate places.
Treat others with Christ-like kindness.
Clean up after themselves.
Not chew gum while at co-op.
Not participate in physical harassment of any kind.
If there is a problem:
1. The teacher or another authority will speak to the child. The problem will be explained and a request made for the behavior not to be repeated. 2. If the problem continues, the parent will be notified. 3. If the problem still continues, the parent will be asked to take thechild out of co-op for the day.
Please remember we are in a church/school environment. Please dress conservatively. No excessively baggy pants, no tank tops or offensive T-shirts. Please no short-shorts, short skirts, short dresses or cleavage. No baseball caps, no costume wear, and no body piercing (girls earrings OK). This applies to the parents as well; we need to set the example for our children. Thank you for helping us set a higher standard for CHAT.
Differences of Opinion
Because we work closely with one another throughout the year, there is always the possibility of disagreement, misunderstanding, or conflict arising. We desire to have an impartial plumbline, and therefore stand on God's word for the best way to resolve such issues within the body.
Parents are responsible for the safety of their children while at CHAT functions. Neither CHAT nor The Church at Liberty Square will accept any liability for any injuries sustained while attending a CHAT function.
