Preschool (Ages 3-5 by 9/1/23 AND potty trained)

The Preschool class at CHAT will offer many learning opportunities. First and foremost, students are encouraged to play and interact with friends! The first hour is filled with educational and sensory type centers that are inspired by the letter of the week. The preschool class will cover all 26 letters as well as colors and numbers. The second hour we say our prayers, eat a yummy snack, and then have some active outside time. Third hour consists of creative craft time as well as ending with some music and movement activities. Preschool students will leave class full of fun experiences and memories!

Handicrafts Handicrafts are a great way to keep your child’s mind busy but be productive and helpful at the same time. In this class, students will learn how to make useful things while crafting. - Each week, we will explore different Jan Brett stories, diving into the narrative and discovering the fascinating geography and rich cultures that inspired these tales! We will encourage creativity with hands on crafts and educational geography activities.

Little Chefs **FULL (WAITLIST AVAILABLE)** Little Chefs is the perfect class for students to develop, build upon, and sharpen their culinary/kitchen skills. We will make a different dish every week. The students learn how to safely handle kitchen equipment and clean up after themselves. There will be some cooking monitored by an adult.Size Limit: 8 Cost: $27 Teacher: Julie Harp

Colorful Cursive HandwritingLet’s learn cursive the colorful way! We will start at the very beginning for new cursive writers. Students will learn correct cursive letter formation using unique methods and by applying the order of the rainbow technique. A big challenge we will be working on is our personal cursive signatures and why they are important. Class is dyslexia and dysgraphia friendly. Space ScienceTime to blast off into space! Join us as we learn about the amazing universe that God created. We be using “The Good and the Beautiful” space science curriculum. Size Limit: 15 Cost: $17 Teacher: Brittany Rogers

Watercolor Wonders!Kids will enjoy learning techniques for mixing paint, caring for a brush and stroke-making, then practice making happy art as they create watercolor projects that are cute enough to proudly display. Size Limit: 8 Cost: $27 Teacher: Jen Asay
Nature Illustration In Nature Illustration your child will learn the skills needed to create their own research based hand drawn nature journal. We will cover artistic concepts such line work, shading, coloring in various mediums, and capturing the likeness of a given subject from nature. Along with illustrating, we will also conduct research on each subject to include in our journal. Subjects will include plants, fungi, and simple animals and insects. At the end of class, students will have a beautiful hand drawn nature journal that they can be proud of and continue to add to for years to come! Drawing experience is helpful but not required. We will be doing a lot of vocal warm ups to learn about proper tone quality, breath control, and how to sing as one voice. We will practice sight reading and sing beautiful harmony and so much more. We will be serving our community by performing at a local nursing home and we’ll end the semester with a CHAT Choir Concert for our family and friends. Hope to see you there! Astronomy
Who has not looked up at the sky and marveled at the sheer beauty and number of the stars, or the craters of the moon, or wondered what makes a planet a planet? Where does one begin to study God’s Creation? A good starting point is the award-winning homeschool elementary science curriculum Exploring Creation with Astronomy from Apologia. Jeannie Fulbright presents a scientifically sound and God-honoring study of astronomy.

Book Club Book club is going to splash into the Short Story! We are going to hear a variety of story styles that promote the joy of reading while encouraging discussion on literary elements. Class time will be spent reading together with discussion about our weekly tale. This low-pressure environment requires that the child have the ability to sit and listen quietly to a read-aloud, though they are welcome to color, draw or do whatever quiet project that keeps their hands busy and helps them focus. When in Rome (Middle ONLY)When in Rome, do what the Romans do! In this interactive history class, we will travel back in time to ancient Rome and immerse ourselves in the history and culture of one of history's greatest empires. Topics include culture and lifestyle, Forum and Senate, Circus Maximus, building the empire, Romans’ reach, Legions, and the Fall of Rome. In this class we will participate in a true Roman debate (togas and all), build roads, and become Roman soldiers. This hands-on class brings history to life for all who are willing to carpe diem. Cooking Around the Globe (Middle/High)
**FULL (WAITLIST AVAILABLE)** Sample the tastes, smells, and peoples of a variety of countries and regions around the world. Missionary Study (Middle ONLY)We’re called to live on a mission for Jesus! Come join me on a journey through time as we learn about past missionaries who have set the example for us to follow in doing the same. We will learn about a different missionary each week using The Torchlighters Heroes of the Faith DVDs and activity book. Size Limit: 10 Cost: $17Teacher: Sherri Hicks
Adulting 101: Life Skills (Middle/High)Adulting doesn't have to be hard! In Adulting 101, students will develop essential life skills that will empower them to thrive in both their academic and personal lives as they transition to total independence. They will actively participate in hands-on activities, real-life scenarios, and role-playing exercises to apply the skills that they are learning. Each student will build an "adulting" notebook for them to reference as needed. Guest speakers/experts may be invited to cover some topics. Potential topics to be covered are: time management, tools and how to properly use them, basic household repairs (painting, patching drywall, caulking, basic plumbing, etc), home maintenance, basic household management, lawn care, car maintenance, how to change a tire, basic sewing skills, etiquette, finance, making appointments, using insurance, digital citizenship, employment: resume writing/interviewing, childcare, etc. Size Limit: 12 Cost: $30Teacher: Miranda Nolen
Board Game Bash (Middle/High)Up for a challenge? Board game bash just might be for you! In this class we will break into teams and play a different board game or card game each week. Environmental Science
(8th and up)
*Second Semester*This course explores the nature of science and the natural world. Students examine environmental issues and learn to make informed decisions by evaluating scientific evidence and will learn what God tells us about taking care of our physical world. Specific topics include the nature of science and science safety, the history of environmental science, interactions between Earth’s systems, ecological interactions, matter and energy flow in ecosystems, biodiversity, characteristics and growth of populations, adaptations, environmental disturbances and succession, biogeochemical cycles, and characteristics of terrestrial and aquatic biomes.
**This course will include some basic chemistry and how healthy an ecosystem is based on its chemical makeup.
**Students should have a basic understanding of what elements are and how they interact as well as basic math skills. No higher-level math is needed before taking this course.
** This class is a full year class and in order to be able to receive a full high school credit for science from parents it is recommended that students complete the additional assignments given each week. There may be a need for at least one additional meet up day per semester for a science day. This could be the only science course needed for the year if taking it for credit. **The text being used is Holt McDougal Environmental Science Copywright 2013 Size Limit: 25 Cost: $47 Teacher: Heather Lavigne, M.Ed Science/Math
**This course will include some basic chemistry and how healthy an ecosystem is based on its chemical makeup.

(8th and up)The yearbook class is open to any 8th grade or high school student who wants to participate in the production of our yearbook. Students will work together during CHAT hours and learn to work as a group to produce a single product. This class will be full year class to receive a half elective credit for high schoolers from the parent. Students should not have much to complete outside of CHAT hours unless they are absent frequently and when there is a large section to be finalized.
The objectives for this class are as follows; In order to capture and record the current school year for enjoyment and reference in the future, students will: • write copy and captions in appropriate journalistic style for yearbook• use good photojournalism techniques• design a professional, attractive theme-based yearbook• write effective headlines and captions• edit, proofread and evaluate their own and others’ work• work cooperatively within time constraints (DEADLINES) Size Limit: 6 Cost: $7

Biblical Entrepreneurship
(High ONLY)
In this class we will focus on what God says about money and business. The students will work in small groups to create a project based business. My goal is to take them from a small-scale idea and teach them the skills needed to start a business using God's word to guide them. We will create a business plan, do market research, create a logo and advertisements, and balance our accounts. The books of Job and Proverbs will be the main guides. Capitalism is not a scary word. Free enterprise that is governed by a republic, elected democratically, is what runs our nation!

Topics will include evaluating our reading and writing based on Philippians 4:8; characterization; setting; plot; self-editing; critique partners; genre, niche, and style; theme; point of view; research; structure of a story or novel; publication options. Students will have optional assignments that will greatly enhance what they gain from this class, as well as the opportunity for individual feedback on their writing.
