Bible Study
(High) Learning the Bible for ourselves is most important in our Christian walk. It creates a firm foundation in our faith and allows us to hide the Word deep in our hearts. In this class, students will learn skills and tools to help study the Bible for themselves in a deeper and more meaningful way. We will look at the origins of the Bible, study history and culture, incorporate word studies using the Strong’s Concordance and learn to utilize my 12-step guide to study scripture.Students will learn to interpret scripture for themselves and will understand the importance of referencing the character of God throughout all of scripture to determine an interpretation and that we must not use personal experience to interpret scripture.
During the first half of the semester, we will study a passage or story as a group and share each one’s interpretations as well as what spiritual truths each student collected. During the second half of the semester, each student will choose a passage alone or in a small group and repeat the process. Students will be encouraged to share what they learn with their parents, friends and others in a way that is unique to them. When we do this, the Word becomes personal, relatable, and memorable.
*These are skills the teacher learned from several bible college classes taken years ago. Study “tools” such as dictionaries, concordance, surveys, and the like will be utilized in place of a set curriculum. We will not debate the meaning and interpretations of scripture; I will ask the students how they came to their conclusions and where they see Jesus or see Gods character.Size Limit: 15 Cost: $17 Teacher: Erin Hicks
